About
Dr. Nalini Mishra is a Scientist-C (Entomology) at the ICMR-National Institute of Health Research previously Regional Medical Research Centre, Gorakhpur, under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. She holds a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Delhi (2017) with specialization in evolutionary biology and entomology. Her professional trajectory reflects extensive experience in medical entomology, vector control, epidemiological surveillance, and public health research. Dr. Mishra has previously served at prestigious institutions including ICMR-NIMR, ICMR-NIRTH, and IARI, Delhi. She has contributed to diagnostics, surveillance, and research on vector-borne and viral diseases, including malaria, leishmaniasis, lymphatic filariasis, and emerging arboviral infections. Her current role encompasses leading entomological surveillance programs, studying insecticide resistance in vectors, and mentoring postgraduate students through the National Public Health Entomology course. She is also Principal Investigator and Co-PI in several national and international projects focusing on vector ecology, disease prediction through environmental parameters, and surveillance networks for high-risk pathogens.
Contributed as core faculty member in the National Public Health Entomology course, Dr. Mishra has mentored and supervised numerous students from diverse academic backgrounds. She has played a pivotal role in strengthening India’s entomological research network by collaborating with institutions such as ICMR-NIMR, RMRI, and NVBDCP. She has been an invited speaker, panelist, and moderator at several national and international conferences. Dr. Mishra has demonstrated strong leadership in both scientific and administrative domains. She serves as the Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee at ICMR-RMRC Gorakhpur, ensuring gender equity and workplace ethics. She has organized and led multiple training programs and workshops on epidemiological field research, entomological methods, and gender-based violence awareness. Her leadership extends to capacity building through hands-on training for health technicians, postgraduate students, and field workers involved in vector-borne disease surveillance and control.
She has published 26 research papers, 6 scientific abstracts, and multiple book chapters, etc till date. She is the member of various science academies/societies and received various awards and prizes including ‘Best Young Scientist Award (Female, Below 40 years) in 3rd International Academic and Research Excellence Awards 2021 by GSIR Foundation, 2021. Her contributions in research management, project leadership, and scientific communication continue to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in the field of vector biology and disease elimination.
