About

Arindam Sarkar is an independent researcher in Geography and Earth Sciences, focusing on fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, and environmental sustainability. His research explores the dynamic interaction between natural processes and human interventions in river basins, with special emphasis on the Damodar, Kopai, Dwarka, and Himalayan river systems of eastern India. His work integrates field observation, geospatial technology, and indigenous knowledge to understand landscape transformation, water resource management, and socio-ecological resilience.

He has conducted extensive studies on topics including flood management, agricultural stress and food security, sand mining, morphodynamics of river systems, badland evolution, and cultural landscapes such as the mask-making village of Charida, Purulia. His current projects also address Himalayan alpine meadow systems, permafrost degradation, and the role of traditional ecological knowledge in sustainable development.

Arindam’s research interests extend to environmental governance, hazard perception, and the interface between culture, ecology, and livelihood in rural India. He actively promotes interdisciplinary approaches combining geography, ecology, and social sciences to foster community-based environmental understanding and policy insight.
