About
Dr. Ravindra Kumar Sohane is a distinguished academician and extension education expert, currently serving as the Director of Extension Education at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour. He holds a Master's and Doctoral degree in Animal Nutrition from GBPUA&T, Pant Nagar.
Dr. Sohane commenced his professional journey as a Junior Scientist-cum-Assistant Professor in Animal Nutrition at RAU, Pusa, and rose to the position of University Professor-cum-Chief Scientist in 2008. Over the course of his career, he has served in multiple capacities, including Programme Coordinator (KVK), District Project Coordinator (Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh), and Director of BAMETI, Patna.
As Director of Extension Education at BAU, he has made notable strides in promoting agricultural development through the adoption of cutting-edge ICT tools. He has also held several key administrative roles, including Acting Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Director of Student Welfare, Nodal Officer for ICAR and RKVY, Director of CAFT, Chairman of the Department of Extension Education, and member/chairman of various state and national committees and governing bodies.
Dr. Sohane has successfully implemented agricultural projects worth over ₹180 crores and has over 200 publications to his credit, including research and review papers, book chapters, technical bulletins, and farmers’ diaries. His pioneering extension initiatives include the development of innovative models such as Bio-Village, Seed Village, Climate-Smart Villages, Kisan Mitra, Kisan Pathshala, Kisan Chaupal, Kisan Gyan Rath, outdoor video broadcasting, and Micro-SD card-based learning systems.
He has organized numerous national and international conferences, ICAR Summer Schools, and CAFT programs. His efforts in skill development include conducting 93 training programs across 13 domains, benefiting over 8900 participants. Internationally, Dr. Sohane has represented India at workshops in Washington, D.C., USA, and at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines. His expertise was recognized by the World Bank, which engaged him to share agricultural extension knowledge with the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Ethiopia. The ICAR-recognized Community Animal Health Centre (CAHC) model is among his acclaimed contributions.
Dr. Sohane has received numerous awards and honors, including:

He is a Fellow of several professional bodies including the Animal Nutrition Association (FANA), Indian Society of Extension Education (FISEE), Society for Community Mobilization (New Delhi), Society for Agriculture and Development (SAID), Ranchi, the Society for Upliftment of Rural Economy, Varanasi and Confederation of Horticulture Association of India
His documentry contributions have also earned national recognition. The TSP documentary "Umeed: A Hope" won Second Place at the 5th National Film Festival for Rural Development (2021) at NIRD, Hyderabad. He also received accolades at the 15th Prakrati International Documentary Film Festival (2023) for "Water for Tomorrow", and awards for "Parali: A Byproduct, not a Residue" By UGC and "Parivartan” by MANAGE at prestigious agricultural film festivals.
