About

Received Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Govt. Engineering College, Jabalpur, India. Earned Master’s in Production Engineering & Ph.D. from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India. Currently working as Professor of Mechanical Engineering in Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, India. His broad research is in Production Engineering, and specific areas include Friction Stir Processing/Welding/Additive Manufacturing and Materials Technology. He has served GoI’s statutory body AICTE on deputation. He looked after JMI's Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE-JMI). At CIE-JMI he proposed Technology Transfer Policy for the university. He has also shouldered responsibility of "Coordinator: Innovation and Start-up Policy-JMI" and brought out draft Start-up Policy. He has supervised 16 PhDs and has published more than 275 articles mostly indexed in SCI and several books. He is contributing in SCI Journal Plos|ONE as associate Editor and CRC’s book series Editor on “Advanced Manufacturing Techniques”. He is visiting Professor at Advanced Manufacturing Institute, King Saud University (KSU), KSA. He is in active international research cooperation with Wenzhou University China, Manchester Metropolitan University UK, Samara National Research University Russia, and Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada. His distinguished contribution to the body of research, innovation, IPR and product development is recognized internationally and is listed among top 2% researchers. He is a Member of several International committees and Consortia. He is an MSME recognized Innovation mentor. Ideation, prototype development and proof-of-concepts (PoC) are his passion. He leads a number of multidisciplinary teams and, has developed a number of real application prototypes.

-Member of American Welding Society (AWS) Subcommittee on “Friction Stir Welding for Aerospace”
-Member of AWS Subcommittee: “Friction Stir Welding for Aerospace” Task Group on “Definitions and Terminology”.
-Founding Member-India: “Consortium for Asia Research Security” promoted by SANDIA National Laboratories, USA

Contribution to Accreditation and Pedagogy :
-National Board of Accreditation (NBA): a Washington Accord signatory body of Govt of India. Assessor for more than a decade and assessed more than 50 Institutions.
-Acting as Team Chair of National Accreditation & Assessment Council (NAAC) for accreditation of Higher Educational Institution in India
-Norms and Standard: During his tenure in All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), closely worked for development of Norms & Standards for Technical Institutions

Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Star-up policy:

Educational Pedagogy:
Engaged more than 25 sessions of Expert Talk, Workshop as resource person, Key note speaker on topic: “Design of Programme educational Objectives”, “Project based learning”, “Peer learning”, "impact analysis of industry institute interactions” etc. Delivered sessions to premier institutions such as “NIT Srinagar, India”, “Sharda University”, “Amity University”, and “University of Mosul, Iraq”, etc.

Products Developed:
-Micro-electric Discharge milling Machine (μEDMM): Led interdisciplinary team and developed μEDMM comprising of “spark generator”, “3-axis motion controller”, “dielectric recirculation system” and “mechanical machine system”. Machine utilizes a rotating tool of 100 μm diameter and is used for micro-sized products machining such as micro-gears. An international patent application has been filed and the machine is TRL-6 compliant. ROLE: Conceptualization, Design of systems and mechanical subsystem. Key advisor to design of spark generator, Project supervision and execution. Entire prototype was fabricated in house.
-Linear Friction Welding(LFW) Machine: Led interdisciplinary team and developed a LFW machine which comprised of “Servo-pressure system”, “Hydraulic clamping system”, “PLC controller” , and the mechanical machine system including. The machine is TRL-6 compliant. ROLE: Conceptualization, Design of systems and mechanical subsystem. Key advisor to design of hydraulic PLC system, Project supervision and execution.
-Mentored development of SPP comprising of “saffron strand separator”, “straw conveyor”, “straw plucker” and straw collector. The machine is TRL-6 compliant. This machine was developed under his mentorship in inhouse by the mentee who received funding from Ministry of MSME
