About

Dr. S B Shivachandra's area of research Interest include realm of Molecular Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, diagnosis and development of recombinant Vaccines and Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases of Livestock. Additionally, promotion of entrepreneurship in agriculture and allied sector.

Dr. S.B. Shivachandra's research work is predominantly based on recombinant proteins and their utility in either development of subunit vaccines or diagnostic assays for infectious diseases. Among several notable achievements, development of a novel Bacteriophage T4 based in vitro antigen display and delivery system for delivery of soluble antigens as particulate antigens to enhance the vaccine efficacy has been well established for the first time. He evaluated several bacterial and viral antigens (>50) as recombinant subunit vaccine or diagnostic reagents following assessment of their immunogenicity in laboratory animal models and immuno-diagnostic potential in various platforms such as ELISA. Several innovative methodologies were employed in production of diverse microbial antigens as recombinant fusion proteins following design and downstream processing in purification. Recently, he filed one patent for developing a kit for bluetongue. Further, his work also included development of rapid diagnostic assays based on nucleic acid and typing tools for epidemiological analysis of disease outbreaks in livestock. Overall, his work contributed for potential utility of recombinant proteins in animal health.
