About
Andreea Diaconescu obtained her PhD at the Rotman Research Institute affiliated with University of Toronto under the supervision of Dr. Randy McIntosh. During her graduate training, Andreea examined functional brain network reorganisation in healthy aging using multisensory integration with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electro- and magneto-encephalography (EEG/MEG). Since June 2011, Andreea joined the Translational Neuromodeling Unit (TNU) at University of Zürich and ETH Zürich under the supervision of Klaas Enno Stephan. At the TNU, she examined how individuals infer on others’ intentions, and has used model-based approaches to characterize the neural mechanisms underlying social decision-making and how these are modulated by dopamine using EEG and fMRI. Currently, Andreea is interested in developing model-based assays of social learning and decision-making that could be applied to understanding persecutory delusions and theory of mind deficits that are prevalent in certain psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia. She joins Prof. Stefan Borgwardt at the University of Basel to address these questions in individuals who are at risk for developing psychosis.
