About
Uma Chaduvula is an Assistant Professor at Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gandhinagar, India, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering. She obtained her Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from the IITB-Monash Research Academy in August 2019. Her doctoral research focused on experimental studies on the response of synthetic fiber-reinforced expansive soils under the guidance of Prof. B. V. S. Viswanadham from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India, and Prof. Jayantha Kodikara from Monash University, Australia.
Prior to her Ph.D., Uma completed her Master of Technology in Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering from Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, India, in May 2013. Her master's thesis investigated the application of polypropylene and polyester fibers on soil subjected to freeze-thaw cycles under the supervision of Prof. C. H. Solanki and Prof. A. K. Desai. She also holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Civil Engineering from the same institute.
Uma's research interests include ground improvement techniques, soil stabilization using industrial waste, desiccation cracking of soil, and geotechnical centrifuge modeling. She has published extensively in reputed journals, presented her work at various national and international conferences, and contributed chapters to books and special publications.
In addition to her academic pursuits, Uma has gained practical experience through roles such as Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Engineer Trainee at Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals, and Graduate Engineer Trainee at Reliance Infrastructure.
She has delivered invited talks on topics like optical fiber sensing technology in geotechnical engineering and reinforced earth at various institutions. Uma has received recognition for her research contributions, including the Best Paper Award at the National Conference on Sustainable Practices in Civil Engineering (SPICE'2021) for her work on sustainable fiber reinforcement of expansive clay in barrier systems.
Uma's dedication to her field is evident through her academic achievements, research endeavors, and contributions to advancing geotechnical engineering practices. She continues to make significant contributions to the field through her teaching, research, and professional engagements.
