DR.M. PALANIYANDI., M.Sc., M.Tech.,Ph.D.., F.S.A.S.S., S/o Shanmuga Vadivel Masimalai Mooppar has acquired 31 years research experience in the field of Health and Medical Geography, and 4 years teaching experience subjects taught in Advanced Cartography, Remote Sensing and GIS, Applied GIS, Critical Cartography, Spatial Cognition, Spatial Analysis, Spatial modelling, Ecological Niche Modelling, Big Data analysis, Remote Sensing and GIS applications to Bio-geo environmental Studies. His research studies have mainly focused on Geographical Analysis of Vector Borne Diseases and Vector Ecology, Tropical infectious Diseases, Health and Medical Geography, Spatial Epidemiology, Quantitative Geography. Remote Sensing and GIS applications to Bio-geo environmental and ecological aspects of tropical infectious diseases, Environmental Impact Assessment of Land Use/Land Cover Changes (EIA-LULC), environmental health, urban sprawl, urban transition and human health, socio-economic inequality and health, and prediction of the communicable disease transmission risk and vulnerability. He has added hands-on interdisciplinary research experience at the national research laboratory, as a result, has gained multidisciplinary research approach in vector borne disease control and management. He is the expert in Health GIS, Geospatial model, GIS for the analysis of health delivery services, Geo-visualization, the geographical aspects of control and management infectious diseases.

He has acquired Ph.D., degree in Geography by research dissertation specialization with Medical / Health Geography mainly focuses on “A Geographical Analysis of Vector Borne Disease Transmission and Environment, using Remote Sensing and GIS”, at the Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2013- 2016), a remarkable works was commended internationally.

Hitherto, has acquired (Post PG) Post Graduate degree with First Class in Master of Technology- M.Tech., Remote Sensing (Anna University, Chennai, India), during 1990-1992, during M.Tech, degree, he was submitted a research dissertation on “Land use/land cover mapping and change detection using MSS Satellite data”, for the part of fulfillment of his degree.

He has earned Graduate degree in M.Sc., Geography with First Class, a diversified course in Advanced Cartography (Department of Geography, Madurai Kamaraj University, India) during 1988-1990, and he has earned Under Graduate B.A., degree with First Class in Geography (Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India), 1984-1987.

In his present job as a Senior Researcher at the ICMR-Vector Control Research Centre (VCRC) a permanent research unit of Indian Council of Medical Research, he has 52 research manuscript publications which include 36 papers in the refereed / peer reviewed journals, and 16 papers presented in the conferences, and has scored research citation of 790, H-Index-16 with i-10 citation index-25. He has attended 16 conferences / seminars, and has attended 7 training courses / workshops on Remote Sensing and GIS. He has also served as resource faculty in 4 international training courses on comprehensive vector control, conducted by the WHO/TDR & ICMR-VCRC, Puducherry, India.

He has developed the GERM (Geo-Environmental Risk Model) spatial model for predicting the spatial and temporal pattern of vector borne disease transmission risk, developed a GIS based surveillance tool and the rapid epidemiological mapping techniques, and surveillance of vector borne diseases, rapid epidemiological survey methods, mapping of dengue vector prevalence, and web mapping GIS for epidemic control, and he is the expert team member of the vector borne disease epidemics, disease ecology, and epidemiological investigation group of the organization.
