About

Deepti Goel joined Pitzer College in Claremont, USA, in July 2023 after teaching economics in India for about fifteen years. Her research lies at the intersection of labor and development economics and can be grouped into two broad themes: social identities and efficacy of public expenditure. The first strand of her work contributes toward an understanding of how identities such as gender, caste, and immigrant status influence economic and non-economic outcomes including notions of self-worth. The second strand measures impacts of government financed programs and uncovers mechanisms through which impacts are mediated to inform how public expenditure can be more effective in improving welfare.
