About

Prof. Rambir Singh working as Professor in the Department of Horticulture, Aromatic and Medicinal Plants at the Mizoram University (a Central University), Aizawl, Mizoram, India since March 2021. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (Herbal Medicine) from Dr. BR Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi, India, in 2004. He is having expertise in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants based research and currently working on isolation, purification, characterization and pharmacological evaluation of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants, marker-based quality assurance of raw herbs as well as processed phyto-pharmaceuticals and MAPs based business development opportunities leading to rural prosperity in India. Prof. Singh has played a key role in implementation of MAPs based major networking projects in Bundelkhand region of central India. Under a collaborative project with CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu and FFDC, Kannuaj, supported by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi, Prof. Singh and his group facilitated cultivation of aromatic crops in over 1000 hectares land in Bundelkhand, installed over 30 field distillation units for extraction of essential oils, established R & D facilities for quality assurance and value additions of essential oils and developed farmers-industry consortiums for doubling the farmer’s income. In another network project with ICAR-Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati, Assam and ICAR-Indian Spice Research Institute, Kozhikode, Kerala, Prof. Singh worked towards development of ‘turmeric’ sector in Bundelkhand. This DBT, New Delhi sponsored project led to production high curcuminoid turmeric produce, for the growing phytopharmaceutical industry in the country. The total financial layout of these network projects was over Rs. 10.00 crores.

His research is currently focused on development of Spices and MAPs sector in Mizoram of northeast India for producing quality assured herbal raw material for the phytopharmaceutical and food industry with a wider goal of economic development of this region. He is currently Coordinator of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India sponsored Biotech-KISAN Hub at Department of HAMP, Mizoram University. He has published over 80 research papers, authored two book and two invited book chapters and obtained an Indian patent to his account. He has guided over 10 students for Ph.D and visited USA, Germany, Austria and France on academic assignments.
