Dr. Abhijith R. Rao is a clinician-scientist specializing in Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Oncology. His research primarily focuses on sarcopenia, cognitive aging, dementia, and geriatric oncology, with a particular emphasis on aging-related biomarkers and health outcomes in older adults. He has extensive experience utilizing large population-based datasets, including the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI) and LASI-DAD (Harmonized Cognitive Aging Study), to explore determinants of physical and cognitive health in older adults.

Dr. Rao has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications, including 19 as the first author, and has contributed to advancing knowledge on aging, cognitive impairment, and cancer in older adults. Dr. Rao is also contributing as an author to textbooks on Geriatric Medicine and Geriatric Oncology
