About

I currently serve as a Professor of Biochemistry and Director, R&D at Jamia Hamdard, a Deemed-to-be-University at New Delhi accredited in Category A+ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India, and hold a PhD degree. With over 30 years of experience as a faculty, my academic and research work centres around strategies for the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases, with a particular emphasis on minerals, functional nutrition, and metabolic regulation to elucidate disease mechanisms and develop innovative therapeutic and preventive approaches using the experimental biology and occasionally computational methods. In parallel, I have extensive experience in systematic literature review, high-impact scientific writing, and the development of competitive research proposals, supported by active engagement in multidisciplinary, national and international collaborations. My expertise further spans host (innate) immune response in virus and protozoan infections, tissue injury, repair and regeneration in disease models, regulatory role of bioactive compounds and minerals in disease prevention and treatment, and preclinical evaluation. Previously I have served as Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Dean, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Dean, School of Nursing Sciences and Allied Health, Controller of Examinations, and Finance Officer (Officiating) of the parent organization, as well as serve as Chairman/ Member/ Expert of various committees both within and outside Jamia Hamdard, including the member of highest University bodies. I have been a recipient of various grants including a UNICEF-ICMR Task Force Study, awards and fellowships, including the Commonwealth fellowship (UK), UGC Research Award (India), and ICMR International Fellowship for Senior Biomedical Scientists (USA). I have published papers in over 150 peer-reviewed journals of international repute, and served as a reviewer of a number peer-reviewed international journals, grant applications, and fellowships. I have authored a Textbook on Cell Biology (Pearson Ed.) and edited two volumes on Liver Diseases (CRC Press), have guided over 40 PhD thesis in the subject area of biochemistry and allied disciplines, and have taught Clinical Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Microbiology and allied subjects at primarily PG, and also at UG level.
