About

He completed his bachelor's degree in physics in 1995 from Madurai Kamaraj University and Master's degree in Physics in 1997 from American Colege, Madurai. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Physics and Meteorology, IIT Kharagpur, India, in 2002. He completed his Postdoctoral Fellow at (1) Center for NanoSpinics of Spintronic Materials, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, South Korea during 2001–2003, (2) Toyota Technological Institute, Japan during 2003 - 2004. He joined the Physics department, IIT Guwahati, as Assistant Professor in Aug 2004 and now working as a Professor since Aug 2014. He received the CSIR-Senior Research Fellowship during his research work. Later, he received a Young Scientist Medal from Indian National Science Academy (INSA) - 2005, in Physical Sciences and a Young Scientist Research Award from the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy, 2005. He also received the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral Research Fellow in FY2007-2018 and JSPS Invitational Fellow (Long term) FY2018-2019 to work at National Institute for Materials Science, JAPAN. He was invited as Guest Researcher from International Center for Materials Nanoarchitectonics, NIMS in 2009; Research Advisor in Magnetic Materials Unit, NIMS, in 2015. He published more than 142 articles, 6 book chapters, and 2 patents; and organized 5 International Conferences and 2 National workshops. He guided 12 Ph.D. students, 5 project staff, 30+ Master/B.Tech. students for research thesis work. He completed 11 research projects and developed 3 courses (Spintronics: Physics and Technology; Physics of Magnetic Recording; Characterization of Materials) under NPTEL. He is a life member of the Magnetics Society of India and a Member of the IEEE Magnetic Society. His research area covers magnetism and magnetic materials, in particular, Transition Metal oxide-based films; Nanogranular magnetic materials for ultrahigh-density magnetic recording; Multilayer thin films for soft magnetic films, exchange Bias and spin-valve structures; Magnetic and electrical transport properties at low/high temperatures; Nanostructural formation mechanism in rapidly solidified material and mechanically alloyed powders; Magnetic nanoparticles and nanocomposites.
