About
Science has fascinated me since my childhood that resulted in enthusiasm, love and passion for it. In my first preliminary cell biology class at higher secondary level I became conscious of the feeling that molecular cell biology, gene regulation and signal transduction, was something I really enjoyed. At graduation level it was a wonderful experience to study the mechanism of action of drugs and by studying the molecular mechanisms involved in life processes created in me the zest and zeal to go into depths. Although I was always concerned about the human healthcare but during this period the demise of my grandfather due to cancer motivated me to think about striving in the field of cancer research. Along this journey, choosing Biochemistry as the subject at Post graduation level was a big milestone when I enjoyed studying life at thinner level. Working as a Project Assistant after M. Sc. under the guidance of Prof. Raghavan Vardarajan at IISc Bangalore, proved beacons light to me when I learned standardizing and applying the scientific methodologies to solve scientific problems. The period that I spent under the guidance of Prof. Shamim Ahmad at AMU Aligarh, while pursuing for PhD was a golden period for my research career as I was scientifically steered in the direction of an independent researcher. The first step in fulfilling my dream to do research in cancer started from 2004 to 2007 when I completed my first postdoctoral training from CDFD Hyderabad, India under the supervision of Dr. Syed E Hasnain, a famous Indian scientist and one of the best mentors, studied the role of some oncogenes and HPV in esophageal cancer in Kashmir. My second rigorous postdoctoral training in the UPMC Pittsburgh, USA under the supervision of Prof. Zhou Wang from 2007-2012 was outstanding. During this period besides working on many collaborative projects, I contributed in discovering a novel export signal in androgen receptor and two small molecules out of 260,000 which down-regulate PSA expression in prostate cancer cell line, C4-2. The progress in research and the challenges we face in health sciences have been boosting my morale to struggle in fulfilling my research dream with passion.
My aim is to dedicate my life in drug discovery, pollution control, and understanding the mechanism of cancer progression.
