About
Kalpita is a postdoctoral research scientist at the Dept. of Psychiatry (Behavioral Medicine), Columbia University, NY. She explores the relationship between mitochondria and the immune system under stress in various model systems. She is extremely keen on translational studies in neurological disorders. Currently, she is involved in a pre-clinical work connecting mitochondrial disease, stress, brain, and epigenetics. She has a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology and a Master's degree in Medical Genetics from India. She trained in Human Genetics during her Ph.D. in India, where she discovered the contribution of genes in rare sensory epilepsy called Hot water epilepsy in an Indian cohort. Kalpita is motivated by the unknowns in science and their implications in society.
