Dr. Sreemanta Mitra
Also known as: Mitra, S. Mitra, Sreemanta
Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management - Bengaluru Campus, Indian Institute of Science, University of Calcutta - Rajabazar Science College Campus, Bose Institute
About
Born and raised in Kolkata, India, Dr. Sreemanta Mitra did his Bachelors & Masters in Physics from BidhanNagar Govt. College & University College of Science and Technology, University of Calcutta, in 2006 and 2008 respectively. He then joined Prof. Dipankar Chakravorty and Dr. Sourish Banerjee for his Ph.D. in experimental Condensed Matter Physics in Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, India. During his PhD, Sreemanta worked on the transport and magnetic properties of low dimensional systems, graphene and nanocomposites prepared thereof. After graduating from the University of Calcutta in 2013, he joined his first post-doctoral research assignments with Prof. Dan Shahar in the Condensed Matter Physics department of The Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, where his research was centering around the superconductor to insulator transition in nanowire devices made up of amorphous indium oxide. After finishing his study there in 2015, he joined Prof. Christos Panagopoulos at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore for his second post doctoral study, where he worked on the low-temperature magnetotrasport propeties in the devices of Archemidean quantum magnets. Post his tenure in Singapore, Sreemanta spent a couple of months in Bose Institute as a visiting scientist with Prof. Achintya Singha to work on the Raman spectroscopy of 2D quantum matters and composite, before moving to the Physics department of the Indian Institute of Science with Prof. Arindam Ghosh as a Research Associate. Sreemanta joined the Physics department of GITAM University, Bangalore as a faculty
member (Assistant Professor). He currently heads the Physics of Electronic Quantum Matter Lab at the host department and also associated with the Multidisciplinary Units of Research on Translational Initiatives (MURTI), Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) Deemed to be University as a Faculty Fellow.
