About
As a Senior Fellow and Lecturer, I am fundamentally a Biologist with an extensive background in Physiology, Parasitology, Public health, Epidemiology, Biotechnology, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Biostatistics. I am recognised as one of the most prolific African researchers working on malaria, with noticeable, impactful contributions to public health and policymakers. I am interested in i) epidemiology and genetics of malaria in Cameroon and outside, ii) evaluation and development of new strategies for malaria control, iii) non-falciparum malaria, asymptomatic and submicroscopic infections, and iv) valorization of natural resources coupled with green nanotechnologies for antimalarial drug discovery. We have recently identified novel repeat motifs in the Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite (PfCSP), a core antigen used in the design of the currently licensed malaria vaccine, RTS,S/AS01. We have also made significant contributions to the scientific community during the COVID-19 pandemic. To date, I am interested in leveraging artificial intelligence and omics technologies to address key challenges in controlling and eliminating malaria in Africa. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious national and international prizes and awards (TWAS, DBT, UNESCO, AF). I have (co-) authored more than 180 publications in high-impacted and TR journals with National and International colleagues (China, Germany, France, Ghana, India, South Africa). Additionally, I have been serving as a guest editor and reviewer for prestigious journals (e.g., The Lancet Microbe, The Lancet Regional Health, iScience, AJTMH, eBioMedicine, eClinicalMedicine, Plos ONE, Scientific Reports, MEEGID, Lancet Infectious Diseases). He is also Associate Editor for Frontiers in Public Health and Frontiers in Pediatrics. I am also a member of reputed scientific societies including, among others, the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) – Africa, the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN), and the Cameroon Bioscience Society (CBS).
