About
Arjun is a PhD graduate from NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. His specialization is in Structural Engineering with emphasis on seismic design. His current research is on a novel steel bridge connection developed at NC State University as an alternative to directly welded column to cap-beam connections. The grouted shear stud (GSS) connection eliminates brittle failure of the weld by relocating the plastic hinge on to the column. This provides increased strength and ductility capacity for the substructure system. Arjun is studying the consequences of connection deterioration to the overall seismic resistance of the substructure system.
Arjun's secondary research is on characterization of earthquake ground motions. He is investigating the possibility of estimating the cyclic characteristics and unbalanced nature of ground motion hazards. This is important as an increasing number of models account for cyclic response.
