Dr. Harinder K. Bali did his MD (Medicine) from PGIMER Chandigarh, where he was awarded the Kataria Memorial Gold Medal - its highest academic award- for being the Best Post Graduate of the year 1985. He completed D.M. in Cardiology in 1988 after which he was appointed as faculty in the department of Cardiology at PGIMER in Jan 1989. He was awarded the D P Basu Award for the Young Investigator of the year by the Cardiology Society of India in 1990.
Dr. Bali resigned from the post of Additional Professor in the Department of Cardiology at PGIMER in Mrach 2007 after serving the Institute for more the 25 years to take up the position of Director Cardiology at Fortis Hospital Mohali.
Dr. Bali has more than 75 papers in International and National journals to his credit and is extremely active in academic circles as a clinician, editor, author, reviewer and researcher. He is routinely invited as International Guest Faculty at interventional meetings in Europe, U.S. and the Asia – Pacific region. His papers have been presented at all the major Interventional Cardiology conferences worldwide.
Dr. Bali was the first to show the efficacy of /stenting for management of patient with Takayasu’s arteritis (Pulseless disease) and this work is always quoted in any publication on the subject. He introduced primary angioplasty for the management of Heart attack in this region. He has more than 5000 Coronary Interventions as a primary operator to his credit. In 2007 he demonstrated for the first time in the world that the free wall rupture of heart can be managed successfully by device closure (non - surgically).
In addition to coronary interventions, he has extensive experience in carotid artery stenosis, intracranial carotid stenosis, aortic stenosis and management of stenosis of other peripheral arteries. He also is proficient in the endovascular management of aortic aneurysms by stent grafts.
Dr. Harinder K. Bali is a passionate advocate of preventive cardiology in the region. He is the founder and chairperson of The Heart Foundation, which hosts the Heart Failure Summit annually.
