About
Saratchandra Babu Mukkamala is presently working as a Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences, Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh (A Central University Established by an act of Parliament), Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, since December 2022. Before joining CTUAP, he worked as a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, GITAM School of Science for 31 years (1991-2022). He served as a Principal for GITAM Institute of Science for four years (2019-2022).
He received his Master’s degree in Chemistry in 1988 and PhD in 1992 from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. He has been a Visiting Scientist at the University of Durban-Westville, South Africa (2001), a DFG Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Karlsruhe, Germany (2001-2004) and a NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan (2005-2007). He visited several universities in the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia and Singapore on academic assignments. He received the Best Researcher award twice from GITAM in 2010 and 2012.
He published about 70 research articles in National and International reputed journals. Nine (9) students received PhD degrees under his guidance. He received around Rs. 1.6 crores of research grants from DST, CSIR, Ministry of petroleum, UGC, and DAE
Areas of Research:
• Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) & Metal decorated Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWCNTs) for hydrogen storage.
• MOFs & Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks (ZIFs) for CO2 capture.
• Rare-earth nanomaterials for luminescent & Biomedical applications
