Dr. M. Manikandan is an Professor and Head of the Department in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT University) in Vellore, India. received a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Mechanical Engineering at Erode Sengunthar Engineering College under Anna University, Chennai, in 2009, an M.Tech (CAD/CAM) from VIT University Vellore in 2011, and a Ph.D. from VIT University in 2015 in the area of welding. worked as an assistant professor at Karpagam College of Engineering in the academic year 2011–12, then moved to VIT Vellore for a Ph.D. between 2012–15, and then worked as an assistant professor (selection grade) at KPR Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, in the academic year 2015–16. In 2016, he returned to VIT Vellore as an Assistant Professor, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018, and Associate Professor (senior) in 2023, where he will remain.
Ø Research expertise: Prof M Manikandan's research focus on Welding of superalloys, Hot Corrosion, Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing, and Energy storage materials. He works on more than 15 grades of superalloys. His focus on the microstructure and mechanical properties correlation. He completed 12 PhD scholars in the area of welding and hot corrosion. He published more than 100 + research articles in the above said areas.
