About
Currently, I am working as a National postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. My work here involves design and synthesis of Graphene oxide functionalized lyotropic liquid crystal membranes for water remediation. Additionally, I am also involved in projects concerning covalent organic framework-based membranes, which are being deployed for water remediation applications. These membranes were engineered using practicable techniques (interpenetrating polymeric network, non-solvent induced phase separation, etc.) which aided in enhancing the membrane’s mechanical integrity, separation performance, and biocompatibility.
The focus of my doctoral research was to develop different heterogeneous catalysts and apply them for various organic reactions. During my Ph.D. tenure, I have synthesized different microporous and mesoporous polymers, Porous organic polymer (POP), Metal-Organic Framework (MOF), Covalent Organic Framework (COF) materials and have subsequently grafted Pd, Ag, Ru and Zn, etc. onto their surface. The as-synthesized materials were then duly applied as efficient heterogeneous catalysts in carbon dioxide fixation reactions (cyclic carbonate, α-alkylidene cyclic carbonates 2-oxazolidinones), carbonylation reaction, oxidation, C-C, C-N, C-O and C-S coupling reactions. These materials have the potential of emerging as the next generation catalysts owing to their ease of recovery, reusability, non-corrosivity, non-hazardous nature in addition to being extremely eco-friendly.
I have proactively worked on other projects in collaborations both within the lab and outside my university during my Ph.D., which led to multiple publications, demonstrating my ability to work with diverse teams efficiently. As part of my research work, I have acquainted myself with the synthesis and characterization of a wide variety of functional polymers. Some of my skills and experience include:
• Expertise in operating and analyzing FTIR, GC, POM, SAXS, UV-Vis, SurPASS 3 (zeta potential), Contact Angle, Porometer, and Particle Zeta Analyzer.
• Adept knowledge in XPS, NMR (1H-NMR, 13C-NMR), SEM, TEM, AFM, DSC, TGA, and BET.
• Knowledge of various polymerization techniques such as RAFT, condensation, and free radical polymerization.
• Experience in synthetic chemistry and fabrication of nanoparticles with precisely tailored morphology.
• Bacterial Study: Colony count method and Live-cell dead assay test.
• Experience in antibacterial and in-vitro cytotoxicity assessment.
