About

Dr. Dhanesh G. Mohan, Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Technology at the University of Sunderland, UK, leads a research lab at the forefront of AI-driven Net-Zero Manufacturing. His work primarily focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to innovate in alloy design, additive manufacturing, hybrid welding, and related advanced manufacturing fields. Dr. Mohan is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining (FIMMM), a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), and a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), with over 15 years of academic and research experience.

Dr. Mohan serves as the editor-in-chief of the journal Research in Materials Science by Taylor and Francis. Also, he is an associate editor for journals including Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering (Sage Publishing), International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing (IJIDeM) (Springer), and Welding International (Taylor & Francis). He is also an academic editor for Advances in Materials Science and Engineering and Advances in Polymer Technology (Wiley) and an editorial board member for several journals, including the Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology (Taylor & Francis).

Dr. Mohan holds adjunct professorships at Lovely Professional University and Chitkara University in Punjab, India. His research focuses on techniques such as Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) and hybrid friction stir welding (FSW), including laser-assisted, ultrasonic vibration-assisted, and induction-assisted FSW, as well as Friction Stir Processing (FSP). His studies extensively explore the mechanical, metallurgical, corrosive, and microstructural properties of dissimilar metals and alloys, such as steels, magnesium alloys, aluminium alloys, and high entropy alloys. A key aspect of his work is the application of AI and ML to enhance the understanding and optimisation of material properties and manufacturing processes, contributing to industrial and scientific applications.

He completed his postdoctoral training at the Institute of Materials Joining, Shandong University, China, from 2019 to 2022. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, India, in 2019 and holds a Master of Engineering (M.E.) in Manufacturing Engineering from the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, India (2014). Additionally, he obtained an MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Bharathiar University, India, in 2019.
