About

Dr. Mainak Basu is a biomedical researcher working in digital microfluidics, lab-on-chip diagnostics, and point-of-care biosensing. His research focuses on integrating electrowetting-on-dielectric platforms, optical detection strategies, and low-cost sensor technologies to enable rapid screening for early disease diagnosis in resource-limited settings. Dr. Basu completed his bachelor’s and master’s in biomedical engineering from West Bengal University of Technology, Kolkata and VIT University, Vellore. Thereafter, he worked as a Junior Research Fellow for one year in a DRDE funded project at IIT Madras followed by his PhD from IIT Kharagpur in the year 2022. Afterwards, he stayed in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering as Post doctoral Researcher at ETH Zurich from 2022-2024 till he joined as Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering of NIT Raipur. His broader interests span microfluidics, bioMEMS, soft lithography, additive manufacturing, triboelectric nanogenerators, and flexible electronics, with a strong emphasis on cost-effective, indigenous healthcare technology development. Dr. Basu is also involved in academic curriculum development and laboratory capacity building in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. Driven by the vision of affordable and scalable medical diagnostics, he aims to translate microfluidic innovations from bench to bedside, contributing to national missions.
