About

Dr Sanjay Kumar Shukla is an internationally recognised academic leader and expert in Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Geosynthetics and Ground Engineering, published by Springer Nature, Switzerland.

He currently serves as Civil Engineering Discipline Coordinator and Founding Leader of the Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering Research Group at Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia.

Dr Shukla holds Distinguished, Adjunct, and Honorary Professorships at several universities worldwide, including the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), India; Delhi Technological University, India; and Southern Illinois University, USA.

He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Engineers Australia.

His scholarly contributions include 32 books, 26 book chapters and more than 355 technical publications, including over 240 journal articles. He has been recognised among the world's top 2% of scientists in successive years according to Elsevier and among the top 0.05% of scientists globally by ScholarGPS.

Dr Shukla has received numerous prestigious honours, including the 2025 Editorial Contribution Award from Springer Nature, the 2024 Distinguished Honour from the Consulate General of India in Perth, the 2021 ECU Aspire Award, and the 2018 IGS Award from the International Geosynthetics Society, USA.

His pioneering contributions include Shukla’s generalised expressions for seismic active thrust and passive resistance, as well as the widely recognised wraparound reinforcement technique for geosynthetic-reinforced soils. His work has influenced engineering education, research, and professional practice worldwide.

Beyond research, Dr Shukla is passionate about education and lifelong learning. Through his initiative, Learning with Dr Shukla, he shares science, engineering, research, and life lessons with a global audience.

He is an internationally recognised speaker who frequently delivers keynote addresses, invited lectures, workshops, and short courses across the globe.
