About
I am a biochemist and biomedical researcher with more than two decades of experience spanning academia, biomedical research, scientific leadership, and scientific consultancy. I obtained my Master’s degree in Biochemistry from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, in 2001, followed by my doctoral degree from King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, India.
During my international research career, I have worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate, and Staff Scientist at universities, research centres, and hospitals in Canada and Sweden, gaining extensive experience in multidisciplinary and translational biomedical research. Over the course of my career, I have also served in academic and scientific leadership positions, including Professor, Associate Dean, Head and Senior Principal Scientist, and Senior Team Lead.
My research expertise encompasses biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, toxicology, immunology, translational medicine, and public health. I have developed specialized research expertise in non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune diseases, skin diseases along with contributions in HIV/ TB associated disease. My research focuses on understanding the biochemical, molecular, cellular, inflammatory, immunological, and metabolic mechanisms underlying disease development and progression, as well as the identification and evaluation of potential biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and intervention strategies.
A major component of my research has been the integration of clinical, preclinical, and experimental approaches. My research programs encompass clinical and epidemiological investigations in human populations, preclinical studies using in vivo and ex vivo models, and mechanistic investigations using cell-line-based in vitro systems. This multidisciplinary research framework facilitates the investigation of disease mechanisms, molecular pathways, therapeutic efficacy, pharmacological activities, and safety across complementary experimental and clinical platforms.
I also have substantial expertise in medicinal plants, Ayurvedic interventions, herbal formulations, and natural-product research. My work integrates traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with contemporary biochemical, molecular, cellular, pharmacological, and toxicological approaches to scientifically evaluate therapeutic potential, mechanisms of action, bioactivity, and safety. These studies have particularly explored the potential applications of herbal and natural-product-based interventions in metabolic, cardiovascular, inflammatory, autoimmune, and other chronic diseases.
My research has contributed to multidisciplinary scientific programs and collaborative initiatives across biomedical and health sciences. I have received several awards, honors, and professional recognitions for my academic and research contributions. My professional activities include editorial and advisory responsibilities, peer review for scientific journals, and membership in professional and scientific organizations.
I have authored more than 111 scientific publications, which have collectively received over 1,382 citations, with an h-index of 21 and an i10-index of 26. These contributions reflect my sustained engagement in biomedical, translational, clinical, preclinical, and public health research, with an overarching aim of advancing mechanistic understanding and evidence-based approaches for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of chronic and complex diseases.
