About
A passionate teacher and researcher with 25+ years of research experience in microbial diversity, focusing on extremophiles such as alkaliphiles, psychrophiles, and thermophiles from unique ecosystems like Lonar Lake, Pangong Lake, and hot springs. Expertise includes teaching various B tech bioengineering courses like microbiology, Gentics, Bioinformatics etc with research oriented at sequencing, microbial genomics and genome-based taxonomy. Actively engaged in biomanufacturing industrially significant biomolecules, including antibiotics, alkaline enzymes, exopolysaccharides, and polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), and exploring innovative synthetic biology applications using Vibrio injensis, a fast-growing bacterium from Lonar Lake. Dedicated to advancing methods for isolating uncultured microbes through traditional and metagenomic techniques, and contributing as a curator for the deposition of Bacillota, Actinobacteria, and extremophiles. Oversees phenotypic characterization services and has developed SOPs for microbial preservation. Published novel taxa in high-impact journals, taught under graduate, master and Ph. D. students, trained 24 M.Sc. students, and conducted workshops and expert talks. Mentor in house projects and conduct international conference. Strives to address complex scientific challenges by advancing microbial research and creating sustainable biotechnological solutions.
