Dr. Puja Saha
Imperial College London, University of Manchester, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science
About
I completed my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Microbiology from University of Calcutta, India. In 2014, I joined the group of Prof. Jyotirmayee Dash in the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, India and subsequently received my Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Calcutta in 2020. My doctoral research is focused on investigating the structure-function relationship of nucleic acid-targeting small molecules for cancer therapeutics and the development of target-guided synthetic approaches for the discovery of drug-like candidates for G-quadruplex and i-motif DNA secondary structures.
In 2020, I was awarded the Royal Society Newton International Postdoctoral Fellowship to begin my postdoctoral research career in the United Kingdom. I joined the group of Prof. Jason Micklefield at the University of Manchester in January 2021 as a Royal Society Newton Fellow. In the Micklefield group, my research interest is focused on the development of synthetic biology approaches for the facile total biosynthesis of semi-synthetic antibiotics. In parallel, I have been involved in projects focused on engineering enzymatic systems for the programmable assembly of modified nucleic acids. Following the group’s relocation, I continued my work at Imperial College London as a Research Associate in the Micklefield group, focusing on enzyme engineering and biosynthesis.
