About
I am Dr. Manjusha Ramakrishnan (B. Phy, B. Ed, M.Sc Phy, M. Tech optoelectronics and laser technology, Ph. D), more than 6 years of research track record including research scientist, Ph. D and post-doctoral experience with substantial research outcomes (for example over 31 publications including patent, book chapter, peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings since 2008).
Currently employed as a post-doctoral fellow in Photonics research centre TUD from June 2017 till now. Moved from full time post-doc positions to part-time on November 2018. I am also employed as a part-time Assistant lecturer at Department of Physics, TUD, Dublin. In past years, I have demonstrated presentations, industrial feedback, and possible commercialization opportunities.
I have demonstrated substantial research outcomes, for example over 31 publications including a patent, a book chapter, 13 peer-reviewed journals and 16 international conference presentations with proceedings (16). Being co- inventor in a patent during Master’s project, being first author 8 publications during Ph.D. degree, and gaining h index 9 during early stages of the research career are the most notable achievements of mine.
Scientific Impact: My publications are attracted scientific community with citations and impact factor, like the journal, article entitled "Review of fiber optic sensor technologies for strain/temperature sensing applications in composite materials" is mentioned as widely sighted article (69 citations from year 2016), journal entitled “Hybrid fiber optic sensor system for measuring the strain, temperature, and thermal strain of composite materials, has mentioned as one among the top 25 downloaded papers of IEEE sensors in 2016. Presently, I am serving as a post-doctoral fellow in PRC, DIT, from June 2nd, 2017, in a project entitled” Fiber optic nose”. The project aimed to develop and commercialize fiber optic sensors for volatile organic compound sensing. This enterprise Ireland project is successful in terms of achieving its scientific impacts as well as deliverables.
: During my Ph.D. on the topic "Hybrid optical fiber sensors for smart materials and structures", I established key techniques to measure multiple physical parameters, where the parameters being measured can also include complex indirect parameters like thermal expansion/vibration in smart composite structures. I have graduated my Ph.D. from DIT, in the year 2016. During my Ph.D., I have collaborated with two research groups together with aircraft industry and helped to solve a decades-old technological problem of measuring composite materials complex internal parameters, such as thermal expansion using single optical fiber. My thesis was recommended for Ph.D. award, without corrections and is a great achievement. During the Ph.D. course, my design of flexible interrogation module for the hybrid sensor was approved for funding NAP and fabricated. A broad spectrum of new knowledge and insights have been developed and published in the application of sensors based different structures, such as PM-PCF, FBGs, Evanescent wave sensors, Fiber Optic Gyro sensors and MEMS sensors etc. which turned me as an experienced high caliber researcher.
Academics profile, services, and awards: I have been reviewing regular IEEE sensors, IOP, and Elsevier. Moreover, I am serving as an assistant lecturer in the department of Physics DIT (Bachelor’s physics lecturing as well as lab demonstrations). I have supervised a Master’s student project. I hold two masters’ degrees, one in Physics with advanced electronics specialization (2002-2005, Kannur University, India) and second Masters in Optoelectronics & Laser
Technology (2006-2008, Cochin University of Science &Technology, India). After Master’s education in 2008, for another one year, I have served as research scientist at optoelectronics division, India. I have received many awards, like graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, won International post-doctoral fellowship and scholarship to pursue Ph.D. from DIT.
