Pierre-Yves Burgi is Deputy CIO, and jointly responsible for the Research & Scientific Information services at the IT department of the University of Geneva.

Pierre-Yves Burgi received his degree in computer science engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in 1986, and the title of Doctor es Science from the University of Geneva in 1992. His doctoral studies were followed by a 5-year post-doctoral fellowship in Vision Neurosciences at Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, San Francisco, CA, and at CNRS at Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. From 1997 to May 2003, he worked in the department of the microelectronics division of the Swiss Centre for Electronics and Microtechnology, Neuchâtel, where he conducted applied research in the field of artificial vision based on VLSI microcircuits. From June 2003 to December 2017, he was head of the New Technologies Department (NTICE) at the University of Geneva. From January 2018 to September 2021, he co-led the Integration and Development Solutions department.

From 2015 to 2021, he led the national DLCM project (https://dlcm.ch), which among other things produced the OLOS long-term preservation system for research data (https://olos.swiss).
