About
I am Dr. M. Sheela Mary, an Assistant Professor in Environmental Sciences at Bishop Heber College, Tamil Nadu. With a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Bharathidasan University, my research focuses on food safety, water quality, and environmental sustainability. My Ph.D. work led to the development of a food safety database on Listeria monocytogenes, helping industries and healthcare professionals mitigate foodborne risks.
I have successfully led and contributed to several funded research projects. As the Principal Investigator, I conducted a study on the Inactivation of Listeria monocytogenes in milk using non-thermal techniques, funded by Bishop Heber College. Additionally, I was awarded a $10,000 grant for the Classroom to Community (C2C) - A Service Learning Initiative for Whole Person Education, funded by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia (UBCHEA). Through this initiative, I introduced service-learning modules in 27 undergraduate programs, training 75 faculty members and fostering real-world environmental impact.
My research contributions include studies on micro/nano-plastic pollution, water quality assessment, and sustainable waste management, published in high-impact journals like Environmental Research and Marine Pollution Bulletin. I actively mentor Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, guiding them in research that advances environmental stewardship.
I am passionate about scientific innovation and collaboration in areas such as food safety, environmental microbiology, water quality, pollution control, sustainability, and climate resilience.
