About
Dr. T. Micha Premkumar is an Assistant Professor in the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Previously, he was associated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai as an Associate Professor. He earned his Ph.D. at IIT Madras and his Masters at Pondicherry Engineering College in Pondicherry before joining the faculty at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science in 2012.He was a Senior Project Officer at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras from 2010 to 2012 for three years. He was a Graduate Trainee at ISRO, LPSC, Mahendragiri from 2002 to 2003. He has qualified for Research Associateship 2010 to 2012, CSIR, New Delhi.
In this capacity, he coordinated with academic departments in creating and revising the syllabus of B.Tech (Mechanical) at Hindustan University. He has guided three Ph.D. scholars and about 30 M.Tech Thesis, one of which was awarded a degree.
He has filed four patents to convert intellectual property developed by him into business ventures.
His main research interests are in the areas of turbomachine, wind energy, CFD, tidal energy, cavitation, and condition monitoring. He has published widely in about 30 peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. He has focused in the last few years on the research issues of small wind turbines and condition monitoring. He has participated in many conferences in the capacity of PC member, invited speaker, etc. Recently, he presented a paper in ASME GT India for the annual event of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering, organised in December 2019 in IIT Madras and attended by over 600 professionals in this area.
He is closely associated with NIWE, Chennai, and has successfully completed a funded project titled, "Design and Development of a 1kW hybrid vertical axis wind turbine."
