About

Anirban Basu is a Senior Scientist and Professor at the National Brain Research Centre, Manesar, Haryana. He earned his Ph.D. in Immunology from the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, Kolkata, and pursued postdoctoral training in Neuroimmunology at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, USA. Dr. Basu has mentored fourteen master’s students, fifteen Ph.D. students, fourteen postdoctoral fellows, and numerous research trainees. His research focuses on innate immune mechanisms in the healthy and diseased CNS, emphasizing infections and neurodegeneration. His lab is exploring gut–brain axis interactions in neurotropic viral infections and neuroimmune regulation. Based on NBRC research, Dr. Basu and colleagues at King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, successfully conducted a clinical trial using minocycline for Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome.
He serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Neurochemistry (as handling editor), Journal of Neuroinflammation, and Metabolic Brain Disease. His contributions have been recognized through major national awards, including the National Bioscience Award (2010), Vasvik Award (2011), Rajib Goyal Prize (2012), NASI-Reliance Industries Award (2013), and several ICMR orations. He is a recipient of the Tata Innovation and J.C.
