About

I would like to introduce me as an energy, environment and sustainability expert with a PhD in the field of Energy and Environment (Policy, Planning, Modeling and Economics). I am ranked among top 10 management researchers in India (First in Strategic Management area). I am also ranked among top 2% of the Energy Scientists in the World. In addition, I have about 37 years of professional experience (research, consulting, PhD guidance, and teaching ) at different levels in the field of Energy & Environment and Technology Management at the Indian Institute of Science, India and as a visiting expert at the Harvard University, USA, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Bangkok, Thailand, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand and Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), India. My research and professional expertise includes energy & environmental economics and policy, sustainable energy access and rural livelihoods, energy system planning and modelling, energy-technology-empowerment, bioenergy, sustainable development, sustainability transition, sustainability assessment, climate change mitigation, technology transfer and diffusion, renewable energy and techno-economic, socioeconomic & financial analysis. The work has focused predominantly on policy analysis, field studies, technology assessments, economic & financial analyses, modeling and planning, arriving at solutions relevant for developing countries, and trying to understand the dynamic interactions between energy, technology, institutions, governance & environment from the perspective of sustainable development. I have investigated about 48 research and consultancy projects with funding from UNDP, European Commission, World Bank, SIDA (Sweden), SANEI, RCUK, AIT, TERI, IGIDR, DST, and various ministries of government of India and private sector organizations. I have authored/co-authored six books and published about 170 papers in various International and National journals, conferences, and edited books with an H-Index of 32. I have supervised/mentored 40 PhD scholars (26 awarded and 14 ongoing). I have been conferred with the distinguished alumni award of Manipal University in 2011.
