About
Dr. Nandhini J. Usharani is a Senior Product Development Engineer with expertise in semiconductor package technology, advanced packaging failure analysis, and materials characterization. She has professional experience at Micron Technology, where she supported backend ATE test data analysis, package reliability, frontend probe data evaluation, yield improvement, and root-cause analysis for mNAND, MCP, and SSD products. Her work involved statistical analysis using JMP, SQL/Snowflake, and Python, along with collaboration across assembly, process, and test teams to resolve fab, assembly, and test-related issues.
Dr. Nandhini earned her Integrated M.S. and Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and her B.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from the College of Engineering Guindy, Anna University. Her doctoral research focused on the synthesis and characterization of high-entropy oxides, where she synthesized nanocrystalline single-phase high-entropy oxides in multiple crystal structures and investigated their phase formation, band gap, magnetic, dielectric, and structural properties.
She has published nine research articles, including five first-author papers, in reputed international journals such as Acta Materialia, Dalton Transactions, Ceramics International, Open Ceramics, Journal of the European Ceramic Society, and Journal of Alloys and Compounds. She has also presented 19 research works across international and national conferences and received the Institute Research Award from IIT Madras in 2020. Her research contributions span high-entropy oxides, multicomponent titanate perovskites, boron nitride nanoparticles for drug delivery, transparent conducting oxides, polymer materials for contact lens applications, and corrosion behavior of stainless steels.
Her technical skill set includes synthesis techniques such as flame spray pyrolysis, nebulized spray pyrolysis, chemical synthesis, mechanical alloying, and spark plasma sintering. She is experienced in characterization methods including XRD, SEM, SAED, CSAM, TG-DSC, FTIR, Raman, EPR, XPS, and UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy. She also has experience with software and analytical tools such as Python, MATLAB, JMP, Origin, CasaXPS, X’Pert HighScore Plus, Thermo-Calc, FullProf, Cadence, and LaTeX.
In addition to her research and industry experience, Dr. Nandhini has actively contributed to academic and scientific service. She served as the Science Lead of the Anveshak team in the University Rover Challenge conducted by the Mars Society in Utah, USA, and has volunteered in organizing international workshops, conferences, symposia, and technical events at IIT Madras. Her combined expertise in semiconductor product engineering, advanced materials research, data analysis, and failure analysis positions her as a strong professional in materials science and semiconductor technology.
