About
Prof B M Reddy obtained his B Sc (1979) and M Sc (1981) degrees in Chemistry from Osmania and Kakatiya Universities, respectively, and did his PhD (1986) at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad. He began his scientific career as a junior scientist at CSIR-IICT in 1984 and superannuated as Chief Scientist and Head of the Inorganic & Physical Chemistry Department in February 2017. He continued his active research until recently at the same institute, supported by the Raja Ramanna Fellowship offered by the Department of Atomic Energy, Mumbai. At present, he is associated with BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, as Senior Professor Emeritus.
During his long career at CSIR-IICT, he received various fellowships, namely, JSPS, DAAD, CNRS, NSF, Brain-pool, and others, to visit and work in different countries.
Prof Reddy has authored or co-authored 350 SCI original research papers in refereed international journals, 13 book chapters, 16 reviews, 5 monographs and 2 edited books, and holds 9 patents. The h-index of his publications now stands at 85, with total citations exceeding 21,650. He has guided 40 PhD theses and more than 30 BTech/MTech/MSc dissertations. He has served as a member of the editorial board or as a guest editor for the Journal of CO2 Utilisation, Applied Petrochemical Research, Emission Control Science and Technology, Catalysis Today, Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, Frontiers in Chemistry, and other journals. In his honour, Elsevier Science Publishers’ flagship journal “Molecular Catalysis” published a special issue titled 'Metal Oxides in Catalysis - Professor Benjaram M Reddy Festschrift' (Volume 451 in May 2018) on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
Prof Reddy has received several awards and honours that include CSIR Young Scientist Award, CSI Young Scientist Award, Associate Fellowship of Third World Academy of Sciences, Sir C V Raman Fellowship of CSIR, NASI-Senior Scientist Platinum Jubilee Fellowship, Gold Medal of Society for Materials Chemistry (SMC), Gold Medal of Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy (ABAP), Bronze Medal of Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), and many more. He is an elected fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, India, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Andhra Pradesh Academy of Sciences, and the Telangana Academy of Sciences. He has served or is serving as the council member of the International Association of Catalysis Societies (IACS) and the Asia-Pacific Association of Catalysis Societies (APACS), the honorary secretary of the Catalysis Society of India, and the honorary treasurer of the Telangana Academy of Sciences.
His areas of expertise include heterogeneous catalysis, nanomaterials, green chemistry and green processes.
