Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering at the University of Aveiro (Dept. of Environment & Planning) and integrated researcher at CESAM. Research focuses on treatment of urban and complex industrial wastewaters; advanced oxidation and electrochemical processes; adsorption/biochar; and waste valorisation, with LCA-informed process design. Programme Coordinator of the MSc in Environmental Engineering (since 2024). Teaching spans wastewater treatment, chemical/biological processes and reactors, applied thermodynamics, risk assessment and bioenergies. Service includes participation in 8 PhD and 80 MSc examination boards/juries. Author/co-author of 42 peer-reviewed journal articles and one book chapter; 1,084 citations; h-index 21 (Scopus, 12/2025). PI/co-PI or work-package lead in five nationally funded projects; supervised/co-supervised 43 MSc and 6 PhD theses. Current interests include innovative waste-based catalysts for pharmaceutical removal via advanced oxidation processes.
