About
Dr. Kintu is a Ugandan physician-researcher currently working at the intersection of clinical medicine, implementation science, and AI safety evaluation for health technologies in resource-limited settings. He is a Fogarty Global Health Fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, studying how adolescent girls and young women in Uganda engage with digital health tools for HIV prevention. As Principal Investigator on a Gilead Research Scholars Award, he leads development and safety evaluation of Sanyu, an AI-powered peer-support chatbot for adolescents and young people living with HIV, and serves as co-investigator on an NIH/Fogarty-funded HIV data science initiative and a Lacuna Fund project building an English-Luganda health NLP dataset. His work is mentored by Jessica Haberer and Lisa Bebell at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard, and Daudi Jjingo at Makerere. Kintu graduated with First Class equivalent Honours in Medicine and Surgery from Mbarara University of Science and Technology and has authored close to 30 peer-reviewed publications spanning HIV care, maternal-child health, and applied machine learning. Outside the clinic, he co-founded Sawazisha MedTech Labs, developer of Waridi, a self-heating perineal protection device to prevent perineal tears during vaginal birth originating from the Stanford-East Africa Biodesign Fellowship. He is building toward a career as an physician-scientist, driving needs-driven innovation and developing the tools needed to improve health care systems in Africa.
