About

Dr. Sumeet Mahajan is presently working as Joint General Manager in Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL). He received his Ph. D in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2020. Before that he obtained his master’s degree in Earthquake Engineering (Soil Dynamics) from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, in 2004 and Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Regional Engineering College (now National Institute of Technology), Hamirpur in 2001. He is also awarded with BEST PAPER AWARD under theme of “Earth and retaining structure” for the year of 2019-20 in Indian geotechnical conference 2021. He has more than 22 years of working experience in the diverse field of designing the substructure and foundations for various railway, metro and road bridges including the design of all type of foundations like pile foundation, well foundation, hybrid well-pile foundation, open foundation etc. He has design tall piers up to the height of 80 m and abutments (including spill through abutment) up to the height of 25 m in USBRL Project. He has analyzed various slopes in the hilly region constructed in a highly seismic area and also designed the protection works for the execution of the project. He has got the opportunity to work on prestigious projects like design of various important major rail-cum-road bridges constructed in India between 3.5 Km to 4.9 Km long resting on well foundation at Patna (Bihar), Munger (Bihar) and Bogibeel, Dibrugarh (Assam) in India. He has also designed major and minor bridges (121 nos.) for Bangladesh Railway as a bridge expert and visited 10 times to Bangladesh for 70 km long railway line from Bogura to Shahid M. Mansur Ali Station. He is author of many papers and published in international/national journals/conferences. He has reviewed many manuscripts. He is a life member of Indian Geotechnical Society and Delhi local chapter. I have also served as a member of executive committee of Delhi chapter. He had the privilege of handling (planning, guiding, and executing) more than 300 railway and road bridges over a period of 21 years. He is responsible for preparation of General Arrangement Drawings of the bridges, Detail design of substructure and foundation, Design of steel composite bridges, BOQ, foundation recommendation, ground improvement methods, stability analysis of high slopes. His dedication spans various domains, reflecting his commitment and leadership in academia, research, governance, and professional organizations. He is actively engaging with and contributing to the geotechnical and structural fraternity through lectures, training sessions, and guiding young Engineer is a fulfilling aspect of his career.
