About
Anirban Gupta has 24 years of teaching and research experience at IIEST Shibpur. Presently he is serving as the Professor of Civil Engineering. He also served as the Head, Civil Engineering Department at IIEST Shibpur and as the Associate Dean of Alumni Affairs and External Relations at IIEST, Shibpur. His area of research is focused on drinking water treatment. He has supervised several MTech and PhD theses. He has conducted several research and consultancy projects funded by Water For People (USA), Rotary International, UNICEF, IC-IMPACTS (Canada), West Bengal Pollution Control Board, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, PHED-GoWB and others.
He is a Fulbright Fellow. He has to his credit awards like Mondialogo Engineering Award from UNESCO, P3 (People, Prosperity and the Planet) Award from US Environment Protection Agency, 2008 Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement (OCEA) Award of Merit from American Society of Civil Engineers, Dhirubhai Ambani Award for Outstanding Chemical Engineering Innovation for the Resource Poor People from Institute of Chemical Engineers-UK, and B. P. Poddar Memorial Award for Environmental Innovation from Bharat Chamber of Commerce.
He has been active in social outreach of his research initiatives and installed arsenic and fluoride removal systems in more than 200 villages and schools in several states on India. His involvement with NGOs helped to provide water and sanitation solutions to many villages. He is a member of the Arsenic Task Force and Fluoride Task Force of PHED, GoWB. He served as the Director, Rural Development Forum of the Institution of Engineers (India). He is presently serving as the Chairman of the State Expert Appraisal Committee, MoEF, GoI. He has served as Registrar (acting) (August 2024 to February 2025) at IEST, Shibpur. Presently, he is serving as the Dean (International Relations and Alumni Affairs) at IIEST, Shibpur. He is also the Center Director, Arun and Dhriti Deb Center of Water and Environmental Studies (ADDCWES) and also the Arun Deb Chair Professor.
