About
Saptarshi Sen is an Assistant Professor/ CDIC Lecturer in UCD School of Civil Engineering. He teaches transportation engineering modules in UCD School of Civil Engineering as well as Chang'an Dublin International College of Transportation Engineering at Chang'an University in China.
Apart from teaching, supervising Master's and PhD thesis is a major role.
Previously he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the same school in UCD. The research was a part of the NEXSYS project which aims to decarbonize the public transport system in the rural and semi-urban areas of Ireland. The outcome from the research would guide the National Transport Autority of Ireland in improving their decision making which would lead to an improved and eco-friendly public transport system. Formerly, he worked as a Senior Project Officer - Research on various urban transportation development projects at Indian Institute of Techniology, Kharagpur, India where he handled research projects which involved identification of the effects of different public transportation related services in Indian cities and develop strategies to improve the service quality. He has completed his Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, India. The scope of his work during his career, starting from PhD, involved identification of problems, conducting various traffic surveys, analysis of data sets, developing models, policy formulation based on the outcomes from the models and producing visualisation.
