About
I received my doctoral degree from The English & Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, for my work on translation and the early novel in Kannada. I have 20 years of teaching experience, having taught English and communication skills to engineering undergraduates at Aurora's Scientific & Technological Institute and Aurora’s Technological & Research Institute. As editor, I edited and published books on Governance while working at Centre for Good Governance. I was the Joint Editor of Research Journal SEDME (published by NIMSME [earlier known as NISIET], Hyderabad) and Editor of NISIET Bulletin from March 2003 to March 2004.
I translate across Kannada and English and have translated into English an early Kannada novel, "Chandramukhiya Ghatavu"; poems, stories, and essays for "Steel Nibs are Sprouting: New Dalit Writing from South India" (HarperCollins Publishers India, 2013); and Kerur Vasudevacharya’s Holmes story 'Vismayajanakavada Himseya Kramavu.' My English translations of the renowned Kannada modernist poet, K. V. Tirumalesh’s Hyderabad Poems have appeared in "Caesurae: Poetics of Cultural Translation," "Muse India," and "Maidaanam" and my Kannada translations of world poetry have appeared in Kannada literary journals "Avadhi," "Bhasha Bharathi," and "Ruthumana." My book of Kannada translations of 70 Polish poems, "Suridaavo Taaregalu," published by Kuvempu University, Karnataka, was released in April 2022.
I am currently writing a fortnightly column called ‘Loka Kavya Vihara’ in "Kendasampige," where I introduce a foreign poet along with Kannada translations of their poems. I was invited by Kuvempu University, Prasaranga, to read my English and Kannada translations of poems on their ‘Poets Reading their Poems’ programme. My fortnightly column, "Forgotten Chapters," on Kannada Arunodaya literature appeared in "The Hindu" during January-December, 2020. My research papers can be seen and read in "Translation Today," "Journal of Karnataka Studies," "CIEFL Bulletin," "Literary Criterion," "Poornadrishti: Journal of Literary Studies," and "Language in India." My English translations of Kannada research essays have appeared in critical anthologies published by Sahitya Akademi and Kannada University, Hampi.
I have also written study modules for courses in Communication Skills and Comparative Literature for IGNOU, New Delhi, and English textbooks for school children.
