About
Dr. Ranjan Kumar is a researcher working at the intersection of hydroclimatology, atmospheric science, and agricultural applications. His research focuses on atmospheric moisture transport, moisture source–sink relationships, Indian Summer Monsoon variability, extreme precipitation, and climate change. He uses observational and climate-model datasets, moisture-tracking approaches such as uTrack, and data-driven techniques to investigate the role of local and remote moisture sources in precipitation variability over the Indian subcontinent.
His broader research interests include monsoon dynamics, moisture recycling, extreme hydroclimatic events, climate variability, and the application of computational and geospatial methods to environmental and agricultural problems. He is particularly interested in understanding how changing atmospheric circulation and moisture pathways influence regional precipitation and water availability under a changing climate
