About
Dr. S.J.S. Flora, Ex-Director, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research-Raebareli. Lucknow Campus (U.P.) and also held an Additional Charge of NIPER Mohali for one and half year. Currently, Dr Flora is Director/ Dean at Era Medicsl University, Lucknow, India.
He got his Ph.D. from Industrial Toxicology Research Center, Lucknow, India and was a post doctoral research associate at Utah State University, USA. He served for nearly 29 years at Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) at Gwalior, India before taking up the present position. Dr. Flora has contributed significantly in the area of clinical therapeutic measures for the treatment of arsenic poisoning. His most highlighted contribution includes development of a new drug for treating cases of arsenic poisoning. The drug (IND) was approved by Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) in 2014 for human trials. Phase - I human a trial of the drug were completed by Cadila Pharma.
He has published over 360 research papers in highly rated peer reviewed journals, including more than 90 Review articles/chapters in international books. He has 14 patents to his credit. There are more than 16000 citations of his work. Dr. Flora has an scientific 'h' index is 61 and serves as Associate Editor/ Member editorial board of nearly 29 international journals like Food and Chemical Toxicology, Environmental Research, Chemical Research in Toxicology, Ecotoxicology Environmental Safety etc He has edited 6 books and the Handbook of Arsenic Toxicology and Handbook of Biological Warfare Preparedness are published by Elsevier/ Academic Press, USA.
He was awarded prestigious DRDO Scientist of the Year Award for his contribution first indigenous drug for Arsenic poisoning, He also was conferred with prestigious Dr Kailash Nath Katju award of Madhya Pradesh Government, Shakuntala Amir Chand award of Indian Council of Medical Research, Society of Toxicology (SOT) and Academy of Biotechnology and Pharmacy’s Life Time Achievement Award in Toxicology and Pharmacy, He is a Fellow, National Academy of Sciences (FNASc), Association of Biotechnologists and Pharmacy (FABP), Academy of Environment Biology (FAEB) etc and a has served as executive committee member of various national and international scientific societies.
He has honored with Prof. S.B. Pandey ORATION, Dr GOVIND ACHARI ORATION of Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS), of Indian Pharmacological Society (IPS) – 2010, Prof. R. NATH MEMORIAL ORATION, of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, DRDO TECHNOLOGY DAY ORATION, Prof. R.C. DALELA ORATION of Academy of Environmental Biology and has delivered more than 200 invited lectures in India and abroad. He has so far supervised 27 students for their Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Biotechnology etc.
