I serve as Co-Director of the Immune Monitoring and Discovery Platform (IMDP) at the OSUCCC-James Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) together with Scientific Co-Director Dr. Mark Rubinstein under the leadership of Dr. Zihai Li, PIIO founding director, to oversee the daily operation of IMDP.
IMDP leverages new advances in immunophenotyping, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, single-cell genomics, and proteomics that will facilitate the generation of high dimensional data, the acquisition of abundant information from small amounts of clinical samples, and more accurate and reliable interpretation of data by working with Immuno-Oncology Informatics Group (IOIG). IMDP resources allow PIIO researchers to monitor changes in immune signatures over time to assess mechanisms of immune function, efficacy of treatments, identification of precision biomarkers, and progression/remission of cancer.
I have an excellent tracking record of discovering biomarkers for various disease settings such as cancer, autoimmune disease, and infection. My research focus has been understanding T cell effector functions. Previously, as a Manager and Associate Director of the Immune Monitoring Laboratory (IML) at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute within the Providence Cancer Institute, I provided consistent, high-quality, and reliable immune monitoring services for internal and external clients. My efforts culminated in the processing and analysis of thousands of individual samples from patients enrolled in clinical trials. To achieve this, I implemented automated flow cytometry data analysis and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to streamline sample tracking, processing, and data management to meet the volume of samples and assays. In addition, I successfully developed new services, including single-cell RNA sequencing, including the cellular indexing of transcriptomes and epitopes by sequencing (CITE-seq: protein measurement) using the 10X Genomics platform.
At IMDP, I collaborate with researchers on preclinical and clinical IO studies using immune monitoring tools and techniques, contribute to extramural grant applications as a co-investigator, contribute to manuscripts as a co-author, train, supervise, and mentor IMDP staff, engage the industry for sponsored research agreements and immune monitoring correlatives associated with clinical trials, support all longitudinal biospecimen collection designs for IO clinical trials at OSU, and support all research missions of PIIO, including the high priority research program and phase I IO clinical trials.
