About

I am a competent biochemist and dedicated academician with over a decade of teaching and research experience in Biochemistry and Biotechnology. I hold a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and have qualified both CSIR-NET and MH-SET examinations. My professional journey includes extensive teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, curriculum design, and research mentorship. I have published more than 35 research papers in reputed national and international journals, with 220+ citations and an h-index of 9 (Google Scholar).

My research expertise lies in enzymology, plant biochemistry, protease and amylase inhibitors, proteomics, and drug discovery. I have received research awards and international travel grants, and actively collaborate with researchers from India, Iraq, Turkey, and Malaysia. I have also contributed to curriculum development and policy framing under NEP 2020 for Medical Biotechnology programs, integrating modern research and interdisciplinary learning approaches.

My research primarily focuses on the biochemical and molecular characterization of plant-derived proteins and secondary metabolites with applications in sustainable pest management and natural product pharmacology. I have explored plant defense proteins such as α-amylase and protease inhibitors from Albizia lebbeck and Cajanus cajan, leading to the discovery of novel bioactive inhibitors with thermal stability and insecticidal activity.

Acta Physiologiae Plantarum (2013): Purified and characterized thermostable α-amylase inhibitors from A. lebbeck seeds.

J. Asia-Pacific Entomology (2014): Reported a potent trypsin inhibitor (AlTI13) from A. lebbeck with inhibitory effects against Helicoverpa armigera.

Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology (2015): Characterized a bifunctional α-amylase/trypsin inhibitor from C. cajan with dual enzyme inhibition and in vivo insecticidal activity.

3 Biotech (2017): Identified a subtilisin inhibitor-like protein (ppLPI-1) from pigeonpea leaves with broad inhibitory potential.

Additionally, I have examined gut microbial proteases of insect pests, revealing Bacillus subtilis strains secreting alkaline serine proteases (Saudi Journal of Biological Sciences, 2012) and identifying proteolytic microbial communities contributing to host–pest biochemical coevolution (Journal of the Saudi Society of Agricultural Sciences, 2017).

My computational studies include molecular docking of maslinic acid against H. armigera proteases, demonstrating its potential as a bioinsecticide (J. Asia-Pacific Entomology, 2019).

In collaboration with international partners, I have contributed as a corresponding author to studies on hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties of plant-derived compounds such as Garcinia mangostana and Morinda elliptica, which showed significant biochemical restoration in animal models (J. Functional Foods, 2020; Environmental Toxicology, 2021).

Through these multidisciplinary projects, I have gained strong expertise in protein purification, enzyme kinetics, GC–MS metabolite profiling, in vivo biochemical assays, and molecular docking. My research philosophy bridges fundamental plant biochemistry with applied biotechnology, focusing on the discovery and valorization of plant-derived molecules for sustainable and medicinal use.
