About
Dr. Laxmikant Dattatray Jathar is an academic in the field of mechanical and energy engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and currently works in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Army Institute of Technology, Pune, India. His academic background encompasses thermal engineering, heat transfer, renewable energy systems, energy conversion, hydrogen technologies, and sustainable engineering.
His areas of interest include green hydrogen production, hydrogen policies and certification standards, digital-twin-assisted electrolysis, hydrogen storage and transportation, proton-exchange membrane fuel cells, metal hydrides, solar photovoltaic and photovoltaic-thermal systems, solar desalination, industrial energy management, and sustainable energy technologies. His scholarly work combines experimental investigation, system modelling, performance assessment, statistical optimisation, and data-driven analysis to address challenges associated with clean-energy production, conversion, storage, and utilisation.
His recent work focuses on the digital-twin-based optimisation of renewable-energy-powered electrolysers, performance degradation and diagnostic assessment of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells, machine-learning-assisted prediction of metal-hydride properties, solar energy and desalination systems, and the evaluation of hydrogen policies, certification frameworks, safety requirements, and international standards. He also applies machine learning, explainable artificial intelligence, design of experiments, techno-economic assessment, and environmental evaluation to improve the efficiency, reliability, and practical applicability of energy systems.
As of August 2026, his scholarly publications have received more than 1,150 citations on Google Scholar, with an h-index of 17 and an i10-index of 22.
Dr. Jathar has contributed to teaching, academic project coordination, peer review, scientific publishing, and editorial activities. He has served as a Guest Editor for a special collection on next-generation green hydrogen and as a Topic Editor in the areas of water and sustainable energy systems. His professional objective is to support the development of technically efficient, economically viable, environmentally responsible, and policy-aligned solutions for clean-energy transition and industrial decarbonisation.
