About

Dr. Manoranjan Nayak has been working at the intersection of R&D, Industry, and Policy in the Biotechnology Sector. He received his Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from Utkal University, India, in 2014. During his Ph.D., he worked at CSIR-IMMT, India, as a Research Fellow from 2009-2013 and at ILS, India as a Project Scientist from 2013-2014. Thereafter he worked as a postdoc with Prof. Ramkrishna Sen at IIT Kharagpur, India as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate from 2014-2016. Then, he worked as a Post-Doctoral Senior Researcher with Prof. Yong Keun Chang at KAIST, Republic of Korea, from 2016 to 2019. At KAIST, he was affiliated with the Advanced Biomass R&D Center (ABC) of the Global Frontier Project entitled “Technology development of mass production of biomass and process of biofuel production” sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (ABC-2010-0029728). It was one of the largest biorefinery projects in the world to produce biofuel and biochemical from microalgae. Then he worked as a Ramalingaswami Fellow at IIT Kharagpur from 2019-2021, after getting the prestigious "Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship award" from DBT, Govt. of India., New Delhi.
Currently, he is continuing as Associate Professor at Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida, India, from February 2021. He is pursuing R&D activities in the areas of energy & environment. He has been working on various aspects of the algal biofuel challenge. Nayak carries out interdisciplinary research on the development and improvement of next-generation eco-friendly energy and environmental technologies. His current research interests focus on algae biofuels research and biotechnology, biological CO2 capture and utilization, utilization, and bioremediation of waste and wastewater. He has published numerous high-quality peer-reviewed papers in the algae biofuel area. He is a recipient of the "Best Poster Award" at IICT, Hyderabad (2011) and the "Best Oral Presentation Award" at AUUP, Noida (2021) from International conferences for his research work in the field of microalgal biotechnology.
