About
Hesham A. Rakha is the Samuel Reynolds Pritchard Professor of Engineering in the Charles E. Via Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, a Courtesy Professor in the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and the Director of the Center for Sustainable Mobility at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. He is a Professional Engineer in Ontario and a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Transportation Research Board (TRB). He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Transportation Letters and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions of ITS and the Journal of ITS. His research is in the areas of traffic flow theory, traffic and driver behavior modelling and simulation, artificial intelligence, dynamic traffic assignment, traffic control, transportation energy and environmental modelling, and transportation safety modelling.
