About

Prof. KP Singh a distinguished educationist, eminent librarian, teacher, teacher-activist, researcher, academic administrator, meticulous manager, and erudite orator. Currently working as Director, Gandhi Bhawan, Provost, PG Men’s Hostel, Treasurer, Kirori Mal College and Professor of Library & Information Science at University of Delhi. Also holding the positions of founding President, SR Foundation for Library and Information Science (SRFLIS), President, Delhi Library Association, and Secretary (Media), National Democratic Teachers' Front (NDTF). Prior to joining Delhi University, Prof. Singh worked at many prestigious organizations such as ICAR, NIC, NVS, CBI, and DRDO.

He is the first teacher of the department who brought and completed Major Research Projects funded by AR&DB/ DRDO and UGC. Prof. Singh is first teacher of the Department who has been nominated the Member of GB of the INFLIBNET Centre in the category of ‘Eminent Librarian’ by UGC/Ministry of Education in 2021. He has also had a rare distinction as teacher of the department who has been elected two times consecutively as an Academic Council Member of the University of Delhi (2015-2019). Prof. Singh while working as ‘Coordinator’ of the department during (2017-2019), was the instrumental in revamp, rejuvenate, and develop the state-of-art infrastructures in the department. He was solely responsible for creation of ‘Padma Shree Dr. SR Ranganathan Seminar Hall,’ ‘Celebrating Seven Decades of Department-2018,’ ‘First Alumni Meet-2020’, and ‘Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Department (1946-2021)’.

Dr. Singh is a prolific writer and researcher, he authored 12 books, 16 edited books, 185 research papers, and successfully guided 13 Ph.D. theses, 30 M. Phil dissertations, and more than 150 PG projects. A book written by Prof. Singh titled ‘Playing from the Front: A Story of Unfolded Acts of a Library & Information Science Teacher’ is a monogram with the difference, new vista & design of publishing, which unfolds the initiatives & steps taken towards the evolution of library science in the current domain of transformation in the digital age. The foreword of the book has been written by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Education Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’. The book was released by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble MoS for Parliamentary Affairs & Culture in the presence of galaxy of intellectuals and achievers from varied fields of excellence in India.

For his extraordinary contributions and services to LIS education, research and innovations several national and international professional bodies recognized his works with prestigious awards namely SATKAL-Young Librarian Award (2011); DLA-Distinguished Faculty Award (2017); DLA- Professional Excellence Award for Working LIS Leader (2018); SPL-Best Teacher Award (2018); SLA-Best Teacher Award (2019); CGLA-Academic Excellence Award (2019), SAIARD-Asian Academic Leadership Award (2020), Anecdote Indian Librarian Pride Award (2022) and Vishwa Bhageshwari Samman (2023)
